Spiritual Care Specialist Training with Tre Adames

What is the Spiritual Care Specialist Training Program?

People practicing in care ministries, whether professional or volunteer positions, sometimes find themselves at a loss as to how to respond to the kinds of problems around which their care-receivers are seeking help. Addiction, mental health challenges, trauma, and domestic violence are only a few issues that may require a mental health perspective.

The Spiritual Care Specialist Training teaches people engaged in ministries of care to integrate knowledge
and skills from the behavioral health field into their work in order to perform their caregiving more
effectively, ethically, and safely.

Have you ever wanted to learn more about these kinds of issues and build your repertoire of helping skills, so that you can provide a more competent and confident ministry of care? ACPE’s Spiritual Care Specialist training program supports people working in all manner of caring ministries to do their work more effectively, ethically, and safely.

Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion.

This intensive format offering of the program consists of two phases: the 1st Phase consists of pre-recorded self-paced modules with assigned homework (28 hours).

The 2nd Phase consists of scheduled live group sessions consisting of 20 hours. Phase 1 can be started anytime before the live sessions begin. Phase 1: Self-Paced Material (28 hours) In addition to the live sessions, students will be required to watch pre-recorded lectures (16 hours total) at a time that is convenient for them, but encouraged to keep pace with the corresponding material of the live sessions.

The final 12 hours consist of homework assignments and personal reflection exercises that are also self-paced. No additional books are required and all materials will be provided. Newly enrolled students are able to access the self-paced material immediately in advance if they sign up early before the live sessions.

Phase 2: Live Sessions (20 hours) Sessions will be conducted by Zoom. Students must have access to a computer with an internet connection in order to participate. Students must attend all sessions in order to finish the program requirements.

The SIP training program is a multi-disciplinary, inter-spiritual, multi-racial community of persons gathered for education, connection, and formation in the work of spiritually integrated psychotherapy. It serves licensed and pre-licensed mental health professionals (i.e., counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, pastoral counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, addiction specialists, and more), as well as graduate students in any of those disciplines who seek to explore the ways spirituality, religion, and the search for meaning influence their own lives and the lives of their clients.

Registrants for ACPE SIP trainings may cancel their registration up to 24 hours before the training begins. There is a $100 cancellation fee. The request for registrant refund must be approved by the SIP trainer.

Guided by the theme Deepening Our Roots: Nurturing the Soul and Growing in Connection, ACPE’s Psychotherapy Commission, warmly welcome practitioners from a variety of disciplines — including therapists, chaplains, clergy, spiritual directors, educators, and others who feel drawn to this work. We also honor and celebrate diverse spiritual orientations: those grounded in specific faith traditions, those drawing from multiple paths, and those still discovering their spiritual language. Whether you arrive with clarity, curiosity, questions, or quiet openness, you belong here.

Our shared learning will unfold through reflective dialogue, experiential practices, embodied exploration, and meaningful connection within community — creating space for renewal, insight, and integration that can be carried back into your clinical and spiritual practice.

This weekend retreat is focused on:

This retreat offers practitioners space to reconnect with themselves, their calling, and one another. Together we will explore spiritually attuned approaches to working with clients, deepen therapeutic presence, and reflect on grief, healing, and the emotional weight of caring for others.

Through reflection, community, and guided practices, participants will engage spiritual self-care that supports renewal and fosters deeper connection—to self, others, and the work of counseling.

Location and Schedule

We will be meeting at Maritime Conference Center, Linthicum, Maryland (692 Maritime Boulevard) from Friday 4pm- Sunday 12pm. We have a block of hotel rooms at the conference center. Check-in is open at 3pm. Check-out is 11am. Maritime Conference Center offers:

All mental health practitioners interested in learning more about the integration of spirituality in psychotherapy are welcome to attend yet the material has been geared toward those individuals who are licensed or on the path toward licensure.
